Hi friends! Today I am sharing 5 tips for cleaning & organizing your closet. We all know once Spring comes in sight, we go into Spring cleaning mode, or at least I do. I try to get rid of all the things I don’t/haven’t worn in a very long time. Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to going through your closet & figuring out which items to keep.
Does this fit me? Have I worn this item in the past year? Will I wear it again? If I was shopping right now would I buy it? Is there anything I could pair this with? If you answer all the questions with “NO” then take it out of your closet.
Tip #2: Try everything on.
If you’re unsure about any of it or just want to make sure you still want to wear it, try it on. Have a little fashion show for yourself & figure out if you still like the way it fits. If not, in the pile it goes.
Tip #3: Swap Items Out For The Season.
If you have extra storage space, this is a great way to clean/organize your closet! This might sound like a hassle but it’ll be beneficial in the long run. I don’t know how many times I’ve stood in my closet staring at my clothes, overwhelmed by all of them hanging there. When it’s Spring, put the Spring clothes up, when it’s Winter, Winter clothes go up. That way you won’t go searching through your clothes trying to find that Summer tank top you forgot about.
Tip #4: Color Coordinate.
This might seem a little OCD but I have been doing it for years. Some people think I’m crazy but I promise it helps out so much! It may not look like it by the above picture, but I have my clothes color coordinated. It’s not exactly perfect, but it goes from colors, darks to lights. The reason for doing this: I go into my closet, figure out if I want a colored top or dark top & then look through that section. It makes it so much easier choosing rather than going through your whole closet trying to find the right top. It saves so much time!
Tip #5: Use Baskets & Bins.
It’s such a pain having your shoes all over your closet floor, especially when one flat is mixed with flip flops & workout shoes. Buy your desired style of baskets or bins & organize your shoes. In one basket have flip flops, in another have all your flats. That way when you want a specific shoe, you can find it a lot easier with going to the right basket.
Hopefully these tips help you get your closet in tip top shape! As always, thanks for stopping by!
