So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial

Last October I made the boots you see below for my baby girl, Georgia. They were a part of her Halloween costume. I just loved the boots so much that I had her ware them all the time. Everywhere we went people would stop me to ask where I got the supper cute boots. Of cource I was more then happy to tell them I had made the boots myself. But now sadly she has out grown them, so it is time I made her a new pair.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialSo Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialThis is what you will need to make your pattern:

  • A shew that fits you baby. I am using a boot but you can use any shew;
  • Paper to make you pattern;
  • Pen to draw your pattern;
  • Scissors to cut the pattern out;
  • and a measuring tape.

For the boot you will need:

  • The pattern;
  • Fabric, one for the outer layer and one for the inner layer, then you need a durable fabric for the sole. I am using a foe-leather:
  1. Sewing machine
  2. Matching thread
  3. A sewing needle to sew by hand
  4. Elastic

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialStart with the sole, trace around the shew. Since the boot I am using is bulky I’m not adding seam allowance, but if your shew is slender remember to add 1/4 inch seam alounce.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialNext you need to fit the paper to the back of the shew to determine the size of the back of the boot. Place the edge of the paper a little more them 1/2 of the way around the top of the shew, turn the shew around and mark that same place on the other side of the paper. For the height I used the height of the boot to mark my pattern. If you need to you can just use your babies leg. Measure from the heel to ware you want the top of the boot to stop.

Place the paper over the top of the foot of the shew lining it up with the opening of the shew.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialNow for the top of the foot. Use the measuring tape, start at the font of the arch and wrap it over the top of the shew to the other side of the shew.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialThis is how wide the toe of the boot will be. Mark the with on a peace of paper like shown below.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialThen place the toe of shew over the edge of the paper, centering the shew, line up the “arch” of the shew with the edge of the paper. Mark the toe.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialTake and draw a curved line from the top mark to the bottom.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialNow that you have all your patter peaces you can cut out your fabric. (if you are using a light weight fabric then you may want to use fusible interfacing, this will help sturdy the fabric)

You will need 2 peaces of inner fabric and 2 peaces of outer fabric for each section of the boots.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialI have started with the toe. Take the inner toe fabric and make in the center, near the top, 2 lines about 1 inch apart. Using a seem ripper cut a small slit in the the marked spot.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialNext place the 2 inner and outer peaces together right sides together, pin and sew along the straight edge. Turn the fabric right side out.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialYou will need to get out you shew again and the inner peace of fabric for the heel of the boot. Hold up the the fabric to the heel of your shew and feeling the place of the shew where the heel dips in right at the ankle draw a line all the way across the fabric.(make sure that you draw in the wrong side of the fabric)

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialThis is going to be the place the elastic goes around the heel, so draw a thin rectangle across the fabric leaving 3/4 inch of space at the edge of the fabric. Using the seem ripper again cut a small slit at the end of the rectangle.

Now I forgot one step when I was taking pictures; you must sew a casing for the elastic, sew a straight ling at the top and bottom of the open slits you cut for the elastic.

Next take the sole of the boot and line them up wrong sides together. I like to start by pinning the heel first but you can start with the toe if you prefer.So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialTake the back of the boot and line up the raw edge with the heel, the wrong side of the fabric will be facing out. Pin the fabric into place. Check to see that all the layers of fabric are lined up together.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialStart pinning the toe down when you get to the sides of the boot unpin the sides of the heel of the boot and bring the back of the boot over top of the toe. So it will lover lap like the picture shows. Then pin it all together.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialSew around the boot catching all the layers of fabric. It can be thick in some places so sew slowly. After you have sewn a straight stitch go around the edge again with a zig-zag.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialNow you need to measure the size elastic you will need. Loosely wrap some elastic around your babies ankle, cut this length. Take a safety pin and push the elastic threw one of holes you made on the back heel of the boot. Take the elastic all the way threw the other side and then continue to push the elastic threw the toe, once you have wrapped all the way around the shew, sew the two ends together.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialTurn the boot right side out. Now it is time for the Font of the boot.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialSew the two peaces of fabric right sides together and and leave a opening to turn it and sow the opening closed.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialPlace the top over the front of the boot. Pin it in place. You will have to hand sew this in place.

So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots Tutorial So Stinkin Cute Baby Boots TutorialI tacked to down in three places on both sides.
